Dr. Leah Kaylor
Leah Kaylor, Ph.D. MSCP
Dr. Kaylor earned her Master’s degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. While she was there, she completed forensic assessments for the Brooklyn Supreme Court.
Dr. Kaylor obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. While working on her doctorate, she was trained in psychological assessment for a variety of mental health issues. She was trained from a trauma-informed approach and provided Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Imagery Rehearsal Therapy to survivors of adult and childhood sexual trauma.
Next, Dr. Kaylor completed her residency at the Memphis VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. She helped active duty members and veterans deal with traumatic experiences and worked in the sleep clinic helping clients with sleep hygiene, nightmares, insomnia, and CPAP adherence.
While in Memphis, Dr. Kaylor also provided psychoeducation, crisis response, and psychological debriefings to firefighters, law enforcement, and EMTs. She administered forensic assessments and competency restoration for the Shelby County Justice System.
Dr. Kaylor is a licensed clinical psychologist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She regularly helps those who have experienced trauma while on the job, such as shootings, graphic crime scenes, and viewing job-related child sexual abuse images (CSAM). She has aided in numerous psychological debriefings for some of the most impactful events in the FBI community’s recent history.
She has written 5 book chapters and over 15 peer-reviewed journal articles. She has spoken nationally and internationally to law enforcement officers on topics such as the human stress response, trauma, EMDR, sleep/nightmares, taking care of one’s mental health when working with CSAM, wellness, and resilience.
Dr. Kaylor has a Post-doctoral Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology (MSCP) and is a prescribing psychologist for mental health medications.
She has held adjunct teaching appointments at Saint Louis University, Waynesburg University, Montclair State University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and The Chicago School where she educates students of all levels on psychological, psychopharmacological, and forensic topics.
